# Connect an AI app

Connect ChatGPT, Claude, Grok, Cursor, or another MCP app to KickBot so it can read and change your channel's KickBot settings after you approve it.

The KickBot MCP server URL is:

```
https://kickbot.com/api/v1/mcp
```

When an app connects for the first time, it opens a KickBot page in your browser. You sign in, choose the channel, and choose the access level:

* **Read and change settings.** The app can make changes, the same as you can in the dashboard.
* **Read only.** The app can see your settings and data, but cannot change anything.

The app gets only the permissions you have on that channel. If you are a team member and not the owner, the owner must turn on **API & MCP access** for you in **Manage Team**.

## ChatGPT

1. Navigate to **Settings > Apps & Connectors** in ChatGPT. Turn on developer mode in **Advanced settings** if your plan requires it.
2. Click **Create** (or **Add custom connector**).
3. Enter a name, for example "KickBot", and paste the MCP server URL.
4. Select **OAuth** for authentication and click **Create**.
5. Approve the connection on the KickBot page that opens.

## Claude

1. Navigate to **Settings > Connectors** in Claude.
2. Click **Add custom connector**.
3. Enter "KickBot" and paste the MCP server URL. Leave the OAuth fields empty.
4. Click **Connect** and approve the connection on the KickBot page.

## Grok

1. Open the connectors (or custom MCP) settings in Grok.
2. Add a new connector with the MCP server URL.
3. Approve the connection on the KickBot page that opens.

For the xAI API and Grok Build, use an [API key](/dashboard/api/api-keys.md) instead and send it in the `authorization` field of the remote MCP tool.

## Cursor, VS Code, and other MCP apps

Most MCP apps sign in with OAuth on their own when you add the server URL. For example, in Cursor add this to your MCP settings:

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "kickbot": { "url": "https://kickbot.com/api/v1/mcp" }
  }
}
```

If an app does not support OAuth, use an [API key](/dashboard/api/api-keys.md) and send it as a header:

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "kickbot": {
      "url": "https://kickbot.com/api/v1/mcp",
      "headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer ${KICKBOT_API_KEY}" }
    }
  }
}
```

## Fewer tools

The server has many tools. Some apps work better with fewer. Add `?areas=` with the areas you need, for example:

```
https://kickbot.com/api/v1/mcp?areas=commands,timers,tts
```

Area names: `commands`, `timers`, `clip_command`, `moderation`, `ai_character`, `imagine`, `chat_alerts`, `tts`, `tipping`, `overlays`, `widgets`, `clips`, `vods`. The `get_account_overview` tool is always included.

## Disconnect an app

Navigate to **API & MCP** in the dashboard sidebar in the KickBot dashboard and click **Disconnect** next to the app. Owners and admins can disconnect any app on the channel.

## FAQ

<details>

<summary>Can ChatGPT post messages in my Kick chat?</summary>

No. No app can send a chat message directly. An app can set up commands, timed messages, and chat alerts, and KickBot posts those the normal way.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Why does the app not show some tools?</summary>

The app only sees tools for features you have permission to use on that channel. A read-only connection only sees read tools.

</details>

<details>

<summary>How long does a connection last?</summary>

Until you disconnect it, or until the app is not used for 60 days. Removing a team member also ends their connections.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.kickbot.com/dashboard/api/connect-ai-apps.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
